Darren has a clear track record of winning elections having been successfully elected to the London Assembly three times in a row and twice elected to Lewisham Council, securing the highest vote of all 54 Lewisham councillors on the Council.
Darren was elected to the London Assembly in May 2000 and is currently Chair of the Assembly as well as Deputy Chair of the Environment Committee. He was also the first Green member on Lewisham Council and is now leader of the Council's six-strong Green Group.
As a London Assembly Member Darren secured millions of pounds to help people insulate their homes and extra cash to create new cycle lanes and safer routes for walkers. As Chair of the Assembly's Environment Committee Darren led the Assembly's opposition to a third runway at Heathrow as well as overseeing major investigations on flood risk in London, water shortages and the loss of London's street trees. He has also actively promoted measures to address low-pay in the Capital through a London Living wage.
As a Lewisham Councillor Darren worked with local campaigners to force Labour into a major u-turn over their pool closure plans - ensuring Ladywell Leisure Centre stays open until a replacement is built. He worked with fellow Green councillors to get solar panels installed at one of the local primary school, to reverse the planned cuts in adult social services as well as getting more trees planted and extra cash to make Lewisham a safer borough for cyclists and pedestrians.
Darren was born in 1966 and lives in Brockley. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths College where he gained a first-class BA (Hons.) in Politics and Economics.
